You will need to join both MCPS and PRS independently. There is different criteria and applications process for both Societies listed outlined on this page.
Can you join?
PRS Criteria
You must have at least one piece of music that has been: broadcast on radio/TV used online performed live in concert otherwise played in public You only need to meet one of the above criteria and evidence must be provided to support this. The type of evidence could be:
a broadcast performance
- a radio station play list (obtained from a broadcaster’s website) clearly naming your music
- a letter from the programme producer confirming the inclusion of your music within a television or radio broadcast, or cable or satellite transmission
an online performance
- the web address and any other supporting information regarding the use of your music
a live performance
- a concert programme clearly detailing your performance;
- a set list signed by the venue promoter/proprietor where your performance took place.
Please note, in order to join, you do not need to have signed a contract with a music publisher or record company, providing you meet the above criteria.
MCPS Criteria
You must have at least one piece of music in which you have not entered into an agreement with a music publisher that has been:
- commercially released by a record company (other than a record company you own)
- recorded into a radio or TV programme
- recorded in an audio-visual or multimedia production
- used online
You only need to meet one of the above criteria and evidence must be provided to support this. The type of evidence could be:
a commercial release
- a photocopy of the sleeve/artwork for the recording clearly indicating that you have a writer credit
- a letter from the record company (on their headed paper) confirming that they have released a recording featuring your music
recorded into a radio, TV, audio-visual or multimedia production or used online
- a music cue sheet for the production clearly detailing inclusion of your music
- a letter from the production company (on their headed paper) confirming inclusion of your work in the production
- the web address and any other supporting information regarding the download of your music
MCPS or PRS membership does not guarantee you will receive any royalties.

What will you need to join us?
- Documentation confirming the performance(s) or mechanical usage of your music
- A photocopy of your birth certificate or passport
- A MCPS admission fee of £50.00, inclusive of VAT (cheque payable to MCPS Ltd.)
- The PRS admission fee is now £10.00, and it will be deducted from your first royalty payment. Find out more info on the PRS admission fee.
- Bank details of the account in which we will deposit any royalties
